QUESTIONS ON EVERYONE'S LIPS

Patricia, you're everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Why this strategy? There's no calculation, no strategy. I save my energy for my collections and my customers..

Patricia Blanchet

You're like the J.D. Salinger of shoes.

That's what you say. I love Catcher in the Rye, which I've read several times, but I couldn't possibly compare myself to anyone else. We're all different. All unique. There's no point in making comparisons. Even if yours is flattering and not devoid of culture.

That said, you don't appear in the press, or very little. So that's a choice. But it's intriguing, you understand?

What is a choice is not to talk about the life of my cat, what kind of tea or beer I drink, where I go out, where I sleep, what I read, what I recommend, what I smoke, who I kiss full on the lips in the press. I can't imagine who would be interested. It's nobody's business. But why don't my creations appear in the press when those of those who copy me shamelessly do? Unanswered question.

I personally have many friends who wear your designs. What's very impressive is the trance-like state of those who wear your creations. Do you know why that is?

I wish I had the magic formula. It would enable me to apply it everywhere in life, in every field, and to go skiing and trekking more often. But in fact it's just a question of injecting a bit of passion, a bit of talent and a bit of time into what you do and trying to tear people away from their everyday lives, in small ways.

What do you think of the growing number of people who copy you?

I didn't invent the shoe. But I did invent a style. And if there are people out there who aren't intelligent enough to create their own, I'm terribly sorry. It's deeply sad when I try to offer something different to girls and others just copy for the sake of copying.

What do you do when you're not working?

I go to the cinema. Only in the morning. I sit in the front row with my guava juice. Otherwise I exercise. I go up and down the Montmartre stairs. That depends on whether I've been out the night before and how many cocktails I've had. That's it, I'm off, happy hour's starting. Thank you for your time.
