PJ HARVEY

It's rare when celebrities or even stars don't cross the threshold of Patricia's boutique, so she sometimes improvises herself as a journalist and asks her customers a few questions, just as she would anyone else.

Patricia Blanchet

PJ, why did you come to the store?

I was passing by chance with my friend. I was on my way to Nuit Debout. I had my guitar with me. I wanted to go and sing and take the temperature of the movement. Things are going better in England than in France. A bit better. It's not paradise either, far from it. There are a lot of intolerable inequalities, but you seem to have crystallised them through the actions of a government completely out of touch with reality. Cameron, at least, is what he is, but I have the feeling that he plays a more straightforward game if that means anything. Your president, on the other hand, is far more devious, hiding behind a socialist label that doesn't mean much in practice. I'm surprised that the uprising isn't bigger. You really have a lot to revolt about here in France.

So you came especially for the movement?

Yes, I did. A movement of this scale is interesting. Even if I can't contribute much, I want to be part of it, to see what's going on, to feel the atmosphere, to commune, to listen, to reflect. And singing is the only thing I know how to do pretty well.

I listened to your album PJ and it's very good.

Yes, thank you, Patricia. It's not bad. I know I could have done better perhaps. But we can't do as well as you every time. I think this album is a transitional album. I needed to get it out there. I could have done better, yes, I could have gone further, yes. But without this stage, I won't be able to sublimate myself for the next one, which promises to be really wonderful. Patricia, how do you manage to always be at the top of your game in your collections? I think it's really crazy to keep offering designs like yours over and over again.

Listen PJ, I don't know. I'm guided by other people. You, for example, your music, your energy, your beauty, your style, that guides me. There are lots of other people like that. It's wonderful to have people like you who sublimate art. For that I thank you.

Are you joking? I'm the one who thanks you, I'm the one who says well done and keep going because you embody, along with Patti Smith and Kim Gordon, a superb idea of art. They express it in their music just as I do. And in your own way, Patricia, you do it in your art, the art of the cool shoe. I didn't know much about your brand and I'm really pleased that Nuit Debout gave me the opportunity to get to know your shop, your husband, your son, your architect, your past, present and future models. In fact, you should create a model called PJ. The synergy between our two worlds should create sparks of love. Well, I'll leave you Patti, I've got some people to get moving at Nuit Debout. I'll get them dancing and thinking. Kiss princess. Translated by JC Bourret for Soucoupes Magazine©
