THESE NEWSLETTERS AND NOTHING ELSE MATTERS
Dear friends of the Patricia Blanchet brand .
At the dawn of spring, we're on the eve of a very special day, a symbol of rest and tradition : May 1st. A pause in our hectic lives, often synonymous with well-deserved laziness, where time seems to stand still and make way for relaxation and joy. But did you know that May 1st, beyond its connotations as a day off and its emblematic sprigs of lily of the valley, has deeply historical and symbolic roots ? Let's step back in time for a moment of discovery.
A Touch of History : May 1st through the ages
May 1st hasn't always been associated with relaxation and idleness. Its origins go back to pagan celebrations, notably the festival of Beltane, celebrated by the Celts to mark the arrival of summer. But a major turning point came at the end of the 19th century, precisely in 1886 in the United States, with the workers' struggle for the eight-hour day. This struggle culminated in the Haymarket tragedy in Chicago, marking a decisive turning point in workers' rights and making May 1st an international day of demand for labor rights.
