Today, October 21, is that fictional date when Marty McFly travels to save his descendants from a shitty future. So even though it's 2015, every year for the last 32 years I've celebrated this day in the hope that in the future there would be flying cars, miniature Pizza Huts that inflate in microwaves de la muerte, skateboards without wheels and Nikes that lace themselves up, or jackets that dry thanks to on-board electronics.
And yet today we have electric cars that drive themselves but cause accidents, frozen pizzas containing E coli bacteria, and self-service electric scooters driven by handlebar freaks that the Paris City Council (among others) lets do as they please.
So, to the question, was the future better before? The answer is undoubtedly yes. But that doesn't mean we have to give up. On the contrary, you have to stand up, face the wind and let ourself be carried along by its force. If nothing else, you'll have a great time flying above the fray.
But if there's one thing the future has brought you, it's Patricia Blanchet shoes. Who could have suspected at the dawn of the new millennium that such a brand would capture your heart and rob you of your very soul? Nobody, not even the best fortune teller. Nobody saw the Coen brother coming. That's why you need to have faith in the future - it's not impossible that it still has some big surprises in store for you (sizes 35 to 42).
